Dogwood Cabins are set in the middle of green hills, blue sky, and beautiful ponds. The cabins are located on the Midland Trail National Scenic Byway and the Coal Heritage Highway. The location is in the heart of the Whitewater National Recreational Area of Central West Virginia.
The cabins are located within minutes of the New River Gorge Bridge, and the New and Gauley River National Recreation Areas. Hawks Nest and Babcock State Parks are located within 12 miles of the cabins. Dogwood Ridge Farms is thought to be the site of a Civil War encampment known as “Camp Dogwood at Dogwood Gap”. Generals Floyd and Wise were in charge of the encampment which was placed high on the ridge where Sunday, Stringtown roads and the James River and Kanawha Turnpike (the farm driveway) could be easily watched.
Dogwood Farms offers hiking trails, ponds for fishing or for watching Wood Ducks or a Great Blue Heron. You will likely see
several whitetail deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, and maybe glimpse a black bear near the edge of the woods. Birders will
enjoy seeing a Peregrine Falcon, woodpeckers, doves, blue birds and many other birds and water fowl.
The views from cabin porches and windows are wonderful. The sunsets are spectacular as are the star filled night skies. The
view from the hilltop is breathtaking, whether it is morning with the fog rising from the plateau floor or the glowing skies at sunset.
